Even though February has been cold and wet, things at the Hub have been anything but dreary!
From refurbished bikes finding new homes, to young people learning hands-on mechanical skills, the Hub has been a hive of activity.
As the days slowly begin to get lighter, we’re looking ahead to a busy and exciting few months.
If you’re wanting to get out on your bike more, why not have a look at our social rides on Share My Ride, or join us to celebrate International Women’s Day (more details below). Alternatively, if you’re looking to build your confidence riding, keep your eyes peeled for our Rusty Riders sessions which will be making a reappearance in the coming months too.

Or, if you are interested in joining the team and making a difference in your local community we would love to hear from you. Please drop us an email on yatecommunitybikehub@gmail.com, or pop into the shop and say Hello!
Best wishes, bike miles = big smiles!

This February half-term we saw a bumper selection of youth activities, from art to M-check’s, the week was full of sessions and opportunities to explore all things bike.
We started the week with @artbytamzin36 guiding our young attendees through their own masterpieces. The session was in huge demand with a waiting list and the creations were fantastic!
|
We quickly rolled on to our next session where we were invited to Yate Academy to hold a maintenance session going through an ‘M-check’ and making sure attendees felt confident in checking their bike to make sure it was roadworthy.
We were blown away with the enthusiasm and energy at the session and once Stuart had gone through an M-check, there was a little race to see who could change a tyre the quickest!
|
Next up, we were back at Armadillo talking all things hi-vis and how best to make sure you’re as visible as possible while out riding. This was a great opportunity took look at a huge range of items that can increase visibility.

From receiving support to giving back!
|
At YCBH, we’re incredibly lucky to be led by a group of wonderful people who all volunteer their time to make the Hub the fantastic place it is.
Whether that’s fixing bikes, sorting donations, or keeping everyone hydrated with a cuppa, every single one of our volunteers helps to keep the wheels turning!
|
Sometimes, our support goes full circle as has happened with one of our new volunteers – Josh.
We first met Josh when he received a bike from the Hub under our Wheels 2 Work scheme; where we work in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council to help reduce the barriers to work, training and education for residents of Yate, Chipping Sodbury and surrounding areas. This bike provided a practical solution and a bit of support to help Josh move forward, literally.
|
After experiencing the Hub himself, we were excited to see the ripple effect in full swing as Josh introduced family members to the Hub resulting in his nephew being the proud new owner of one of our refurbished bikes.
Having been a supporter of the Hub for some time, we were delighted when we heard Josh wanted to join the Hub as a volunteer and give something back. Since joining the Hub, he’s had his pedal to the metal, even selling a bike on his first shift!
This story highlights that we have a wonderful group of people who all support the mission of the Hub and without them, it wouldn’t be the fantastic place it is.
If you’re interested in getting involved, why not pop by and say hello?
